Foldable smartphone Galaxy The Z Flip is undoubtedly an interesting device with a price tag lower than Samsung's first foldable phone - Galaxy Fold 2. Unfortunately, the effort to reduce production costs has now been reflected in the test of the front camera of the independent test site DxOMark.

Galaxy The Flip received only 82 points for taking photos and 86 points in the video-taking test. The total score then climbed to an unflattering 83 points, which puts the selfie camera of this foldable phone at the level of a smartphone Galaxy A71, which, even with a price of around 13 CZK, ranks in the middle class of phones. Only one less point was scored by the older flagships Apple iPhone XS Max and Galaxy S9+. For comparison - Apple's current top model iPhone 11 Pro Max received 92 points in the front camera test and the current flagship model of Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 100 points.

The experts at DxOMark couldn't overlook the blur that occurs when you shoot with Galaxy From the Flip at a distance of less than 55 cm, when shooting at a greater distance, such as a group of people, the faces of people further away from the camera, as well as the background, lose detail. Sometimes, due to poor white balance, the skin tone can be displayed inaccurately. The so-called bokeh photos, i.e. those with a blurred background, cause downright disappointment, because it often happens that the effect is not applied at all or the blur is inaccurate. On the other hand, color rendering, exposure settings or noise reduction when shooting outdoors are positively evaluated.

When shooting 4K video, si Galaxy The Z Flip does a little better than taking photos. Effective image stabilization, accurate exposure with a wide dynamic range outdoors and indoors, as well as good rendering of skin tones, all these are the strengths of this folding phone. Unfortunately, the video is also far from perfect, mainly due to strong noise and poor details in poor lighting conditions, poor white balance when shooting outdoors or blurred faces when shooting at a short distance.

Most customers would probably expect more from a phone for almost 42 in terms of cameras. Unfortunately, something has to be sacrificed for a large display in a compact body. How are you doing? Are you willing to sacrifice camera quality for other smartphone features? Let us know in the comments below the article.
