Imagine if you held your smartphone in portrait or landscape mode, the video would still be recorded in the original aspect ratio. This would prevent the image from scrolling as you scroll your phone. The OnePlus company likes to present itself as an innovative smartphone manufacturer, which is why it came up with a rather interesting concept that we haven't seen even with the biggest players on the market, i.e. Samsung and Apple.

A magnetically rotating camera would work by being able to rotate up to 180 degrees, making it no matter how you hold your phone. You could also record in landscape, even in portrait. However, it would not only be this option, it would also be a certain system of optical image stabilization close to the stabilization of the Apple sensor, and this also opens the door for many effective "rotational" modes, as described in the patent. But it is a question whether this function would be used by more professionally minded users or, on the contrary, complete amateurs who often record rather unwatchable videos.

The company applied for a patent back in 2020, and it was approved in June 2021, and then also submitted to the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) for worldwide protection of the patented technology. Thanks to this, nobody could copy this company's solution in their own solution. According to the patent documentation, it is a smartphone with one large camera on the back. For a better visualization of the image, the magazine published it LetsGoDigital a series of product renders of this unique smartphone. Of course, the camera here also protrudes above the back of the device. You can also see the Hasselblad brand, with which the manufacturer works on the optics of its smartphones.
