The internet can be a strange place sometimes. If he hadn't, Samsung Sam probably wouldn't have become so popular. The popularity of something that isn't even really a mascot, but rather an interesting physical representation of a virtual assistant, has many wondering: Who exactly is Samsung Sam?

Samsung's virtual assistant's full name is Samantha, so it's actually a virtual assistant. Although it has been linked to the Korean giant since 2021, when it went viral, Samsung did not create it, nor has it ever confirmed its existence. It exists only in the form of 3D rendered images showing a virtual woman who is funny and personable and who appears to be a pro at using Samsung products.

These 3D renders were created by the Brazilian company Lightfarm in collaboration with Cheil. Maybe some of you know that Cheil is a marketing company owned by Samsung. The main idea of this project was not to use these renders to promote Samsung products, but to show what a theoretical virtual assistant could look like in human form.

Lightfarm already had a 2D model of the assistant, but it underwent a complete design change and was subsequently published on social networks in a 3D version. Her distinctive visage attracted the attention of not only Samsung fans. Some have taken her as their waifu, a term used for anime characters with whom one has a romantic crush. However, this has encouraged some to start creating and spreading not-so-innocuous content with Samsung Sam on the Internet.

Lightfarm quickly realized what was happening and instantly erased the very existence of the assistant from his pages. But as we well know, nothing ever really goes away from the internet, so Samantha will continue to capture the hearts and minds of people online, even if she never actually became Samsung's virtual assistant.
