Apple has begun development work on a new type of display that it will use in its flexible phones. More interesting, however, is that the Cupertino smartphone giant is copying Samsung's display technology used in the "puzzle" Galaxy From Fold3. This was reported by the Korean website The Elec.

The biggest challenge in developing a flexible display is to make it thin yet robust enough to withstand long periods (at least several years) of continuous opening and closing. Samsung perfected this technology for the third Fold by removing the polarizer layer from its OLED display. And it is said that it intends to use the same display technology for its foldable smartphones as well Apple.

The polarizer allows the passage of light only in certain directions, thereby improving the visibility of the display. However, it uses more power to maintain the same brightness level, resulting in a thicker display panel. Instead of a polarizer on the Flip3, Samsung used a printed color filter on a thin film and added a layer that defines the black pixels. The result is a quarter lower energy consumption and 33% higher light transmission. Otherwise, Apple's first flexible phone should arrive before long, according to well-known insiders and leakers such as Ming Chi-Kuo or Ross Young, we won't see it until 2025 at the earliest.
