While call recording may seem like the most basic feature of smartphones, it's actually not in the devices Galaxy available in all countries. Local laws in various regions and jurisdictions restrict the availability of this feature, at least as a built-in feature in the default Phone app.

It's actually quite difficult to find out if a country supports call recording other than by checking your phone's app settings and seeing if the call recording feature is present. Phone users Galaxy so they checked around the world, that's how it is with the support of the feature, and it was found that only a handful of countries support it. It's worth noting that call recording in Samsung's Phone app while driving may not be available, even if it's legal in that country. So below is the full list of countries where call recording is present in the Samsugnu Phone app:

  • Bangladesh
  • Egypt
  • Indie
  • Indonesia
  • Israel
  • Laos.
  • Libya
  • Nepal
  • Sri Lanka
  • Thailand
  • Tunisia
  • Ukraine
  • Vietnam

Our situation

If you have been following the situation with us for a long time, then of course you know that we have already mentioned it a few times. In the article from April, however, we received an interesting comment from reader Jiří Valerian, which explains the domestic situation a bit. In case you missed it, you can read it below.

“I have contacted Samsung about this and according to the statement, there is no native recording support, just a call recording app created directly by Samsung and this app is dependent on OS support Android similar to third-party call recording applications.

Samsung has made its call recording application unavailable in EU countries not for legal reasons, which in fact do not exist at all (see the description below in relation to Google), but only because, thanks to blocks in the operating system Android even the Samsung app doesn't work properly in the EU regions.

By changing the CSC code of the region, some "do-it-yourselfers" bypass that very block in the operating system Android, which only applies to some regions, and then the Samsung application is also logically functional, and similarly, third-party call recording applications would also work on other phones without any problems after changing the region.

However, Google screwed it up legally and it will probably have unpleasant consequences for it.

According to the Office of the Czech Republic for the Protection of Personal Data, the recording of calls for personal use is not contrary to the legal regulations of the Czech Republic or to the regulations of the European Union valid in the Czech Republic, and the recording of calls for personal use does not apply to the general regulation of the European Union, the so-called GDPR in in accordance with article 2, paragraph 2. letter c) of the said regulation.

This blocking by Google therefore has no legal justification both in terms of the legal regulations of the Czech Republic and the regulations of the European Union valid in the Czech Republic.

The Google company with the mentioned blocking of call recording for personal use in the region of the Czech Republic in the operating system Android discriminates against persons in other countries where the recording of calls for personal use is not blocked.”
