If you want to gain a foothold in the huge market of mobile applications, then match its icon mainly to white color, ideally with the addition of red or black. Since February 2022, white has been the dominant part of the applications that users downloaded most often from Google Play.

As stated by the CEO Money Transfers Jonathan Merry, the icons of the most popular apps used white color for about 43% of their area. But it is true that a lot depends on the genre. Black dominates games, red, on the other hand, applications for food and drink, and social networks must ideally have a blue color (such as Facebook or Twitter).

Google Play Statistics

According to Data.ai, users spent an astronomical $2022 billion on mobile apps in the first quarter of 33, the highest amount ever. It has grown by 40% in just two years, although the spike in downloads is certainly related to the coronavirus pandemic and the trend may be starting to slow down. The most frequently downloaded applications were Instagram (which, on the other hand, has a very colorful icon), TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Telegram, Shopee, Facebook Messenger, Spotify and Zoom Cloud Meetings. TikTok is the absolute leader in terms of how much money users spend on it. But Facebook still has the most monthly active users worldwide.

Data.ai further reports that medical and health apps are growing by 23 percent each quarter, while health and fitness apps are growing by roughly 20 percent per quarter. It's no surprise then that Calm is one of the most popular apps for meditation and sleep, even though you'll find a really large number of apps with a similar focus on Google Play.
