Two things have seen explosive growth during the coronavirus pandemic: Chromebooks and Zoom. But now Google has announced that it will shut down Zoom for Chromebooks in August.

The app was available for several years and provided simple access to "Zoom" meetings, but without additional features. As for most of them, the app has been severely limited and no update has been released for it for quite some time.

The reason the app is shutting down is because it is built on outdated technology. This is because it is a "traditional" application for Chrome, which has not been relevant for several years. In this context, let us recall that Google announced in August 2020 that it will gradually end Chrome applications on all platforms. For Windows, Mac and Linux support ended exactly one year ago. As of this month, Google is ending support for these apps for Chrome OS as well.

As a replacement, Chromebook users can use an app Zoom for Chrome - PWA (PWA stands for Progressive Web App) which was launched last year. It is a better equipped version of the original title that works similarly to the pro version Windows and macOS. It has a familiar user interface and offers advanced features including background blur.
