Qualcomm has unveiled two new chipsets, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. The former is aimed at mid-range smartphones and should arrive early next year, while the latter will power lower-end phones, one of which will debut later this quarter . It is likely that we will see at least one of them in a future Samsung smartphone.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is built on a 4nm manufacturing process and its main cores are clocked at 2,2 GHz. Like the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, which is manufactured using a 6nm process, it has eight cores, detailed informace however, Qualcomm kept to itself about them, as well as about the graphics chip.

According to the chip giant, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will offer 40% higher processor and 35% better graphics performance, but it did not say which reference chip these numbers refer to, so it could easily look like it just sucked them off your finger. With Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, the processor unit is 15% faster and the GPU is 10% faster. For him, these numbers probably refer to the Snapdragon 480 or 480+ chip.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 received a 12-bit Spectra Triple image processor, which supports up to 200MPx cameras. HDR videos are also supported. The chipset also uses Qualcomm's 7th generation AI engine, which is supposed to handle the bokeh effect better than previous generations and help with overall performance and power consumption optimization. In addition, it brings support for the Wi-Fi 6E standard and the 4th generation Snapdragon X62 5G modem. It will be available in the first phones in the first quarter of next year.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 uses the AI engine as well, but it is not the latest version. Its image processor is also weaker, supporting a maximum of 108MPx cameras. The Snapdragon X5 51G modem provides 5G connectivity for this chip, but support for Wi-Fi 6E is missing here. As for the display, the chipset manages the maximum FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate (for the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, Qualcomm does not provide this information). It will make its debut in the iQOO Z6 Lite phone, which will be presented at the end of September.
