A group of Polish customers is reportedly considering a class-action lawsuit against Samsung over the durability of its flexible phones. More than 1100 owners of older model ranges Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip shared their complaints on Facebook where they shared their experiences with the Korean giant's customer support and service. And most of them are not very happy.
Owners of older Samsung foldable smartphones in Poland are complaining about several problems. One of them is that the protective film on the flexible display can get damaged over time. Another is that Samsung service centers are not very willing to take responsibility and offer a helping hand unless pressure is put on them through negative social media posts.
A spokesperson for the Korean giant in Poland said that if the protective film on the flexible display peels off or is damaged, "we ask customers to immediately visit one of our authorized service centers and have it replaced free of charge during the warranty period." Let's add that the warranty period for Samsung jigsaws lasts one year. According to the Polish website Installation, which cites the aforementioned Facebook group, some customers received free display replacements under warranty in a relatively short period of time. However, others were not so lucky and were rejected. Whether it was because they removed the film themselves is not clear.
However, even customers who were credited with the fix say the whole experience left them with a bitter aftertaste. They have become much more aware of how vulnerable these devices are, and some are considering selling them for fear of being damaged again. Samsung has sold millions of flexible phones since 2019, and most customers seem happy with their decision to join this growing smartphone segment. However, the more jigsaws the Korean giant sells, the more complaints about the durability of the flexible panels pile up. Sometimes this is due to user error, other times the protective film has been removed on purpose. But there are also cases where customers were simply unlucky because, despite taking good care of their devices, hardware failure occurred.
So the cover layer between the foil and the display cracked for me at fold 2 and I have to say that I'm glad I don't live in Poland.. 😀
Satisfaction with the Samsung service in the Czech Republic. The repair took longer because of the color of the phone. But everything was allegedly replaced except for the motherboard.
I have a Samsung Z flip 3 and I have already dealt with the foil problem twice. The first time after six months and then after a year. They solved the problem at the Samsung service center by sticking a new foil in about an hour. But they said it was not covered by the warranty and I paid for the repair every time. I don't want a phone that costs me like this anymore. In addition, you have to have the foil there, but you pay for it yourself, even if it is glued from the factory.
I've had a flip for 9 months, last week the display started leaking in the bend - among other things, samsung service did not recognize the warranty and destroyed the repair for 11. I'm considering throwing him out. The phone cost me 3 crowns per month for the period of use - expensive joke.
My fold 2 broke in the bend and the service did not recognize the claim despite the warranty. They say moss. damage and they send a photo of a scratch on the metal side that was there for a quarter of a year... so I don't see much difference between Polish and Czech service.
Just one scratch anywhere on the phone and there is already mechanical damage, the warranty is not recognized. The film will last me about 6 months and then I have to send it to the service center and pay for its replacement... that's just the way it is. On the other hand, it's the best phone I've ever had and I'm happy with it.
I was very, very careful with that mobile phone. I left it open at home. I bent it as little as possible. One day in the morning I tapped the display and it was yellow, the lighting was dark, and it was lit up. carky from top to bottom. They didn't acknowledge the complaint until I paid €400 for repairs. It happened to me a month after I bought it. They never fell off, I just didn't do anything. It hurts me. Such an expensive mobile phone and I can't do anything about it .
Why are you buying this?!
Everyone knew that the first generation was far from catching flies, but people still have to complain because they had to have something extra. For such new technologies, I would have them sign that they will test them at their own risk from higher repair costs.
I have a ZFold3 and my internal display melted after about half a year of use, and of course the service didn't recognize the complaint and told me that I did it myself, unprofessional handling of the device, so I will never use a phone with a flexible display again!!!
Yes, I keep reading here the same damage that happened to me and the service found a scratch and did not recognize the claim
