After antitrust lawsuits were brought against Google in the EU, it announced a first-of-its-kind billing system with Spotify that will allow users to choose an alternative way to pay for music subscriptions. This billing system was called User Choice Billing (UCB). It wasn't meant specifically for Spotify, but for everyone androidapplications and their invoicing systems.

After UCB's pilot testing, Spotify is now bringing this Google payment system to more markets, including the US. Thanks to it, Google Play Store apps can use their own along with its payment system. In September, the software giant opened registrations for non-gaming applications in the countries of the European Economic Area, Australia, India, Indonesia and Japan.

Thanks to UCB, they can androidapplications and services to offer a more integrated payment system instead of redirecting users to a website to sign up for a particular service. With UCB, users see two options to pay for their Spotify subscription, i.e. Spotify and Google Play. Users who choose the Google Play option will go through the familiar payment process, while those who already choose the Spotify option will pay for their subscription using Spotify's credit card form.

In addition to Spotify, the well-known dating app Bumble was also included in the UCB pilot program. The system is now expanding in the US, Brazil and South Africa. It is not known at this time when it will arrive in Europe. Applications signed up to UCB must pay Google an appropriate fee, which it says serves as an investment in Androidand Google Play. However, this fee has been reduced to 4% through UCB.
