On Monday, January 30, Samsung held a special event for journalists to introduce the series Galaxy S23. We had the opportunity to touch all three models. Perhaps the most interesting Galaxy S23 Ultra, but even the smallest of the series certainly deserves attention. Here you will find our first impressions of Galaxy S23.

New design, same cameras

Unlike the Ultra, you can tell in the case of the models Galaxy S23 and S23+ differences compared to the previous generation at a glance. Maybe not so much from the front as from the back. The characteristic protrusion around the entire module has disappeared here, and the appearance is therefore more similar to the S23 Ultra (and S22 Ultra). The entire line is all the more consistent in terms of its appearance and looks like it really belongs together despite the different body shape of the Ultra and its curved display. Last year, the uninitiated would certainly not have guessed that it was a trio with the same name.

I personally acknowledge this, because here we have something different and less eye-catching. In addition, the lens outputs seem to protrude less above the surface of the back thanks to the removal of material around them, although of course the phones still wobble a bit on a flat surface (certainly less than the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, where it's absolutely tragic). Bad speakers could say that with this construction the lenses are more easily damaged. It's not true. Around each one is a steel frame, which ensures that the glass of the lenses does not touch the surface on which you place the phone.

The phones still had pre-production software and we couldn't download data from them. So we couldn't test how much the quality of photos jumped compared to last generation, as well as the One UI 5.1 software news. We could, respectively, but the results would be misleading, so we will wait for the final samples that come to us for testing.

Small, light and fresh

Considering the smallest 6,1" representative of the series, we can still say that it still has its place in the flagship. Someone could argue that it would be better to increase the display to at least 6,4", but we would have two almost identical models here if we look at the Plus model. In addition, this size is still popular and if it doesn't suit you, there is a bigger sibling with a 6,6" display. In addition, this year the basic model has also caught up with it in terms of display brightness.

The performance improved, the battery capacity increased, the design was refreshed, but everything that worked remained, i.e. compact dimensions and, if possible, an ideal price/performance ratio with regard to the phone's high-end specifications. Keep in mind that these are just first impressions after testing the phone for a while, which didn't have the final software, so things may still change in our review. Although it's true that we don't see anything right now that we have to legitimately criticize. A lot will depend on the quality of the photos.
