After about a decade of developing flexible display technology, Samsung's Samsung Display division finally reached the point where it could commercialize foldable screens. The first device to use this technology was in 2019 Galaxy Fold, and since then the company has been experimenting with different form factors. Some designs, such as the display Flex Hybrid, could be seen at the recent CES 2023. Now, Samsung Display has applied for another trademark with Flex in the name.

A new entry in the KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service) database has revealed that Samsung Display has applied to register the FlexMirror trademark. For what purpose, it is not known at this time. However, "Flex" is generally associated with Samsung's foldable and pop-out displays. Samsung Display applied for the registration of the new trademark on February 6.

Other than being somehow related to flexible displays, "FlexMirror" doesn't tell us much about what type of product Samsung Display might be developing under that brand. Anyway, the name suggests that the display might have some reflective properties. Of course, there's also the possibility that Samsung Display just wants to secure this trademark for safekeeping purposes, without actually planning to market a product based on it.

One of Samsung Display's latest innovations is the Flex In & Out panel, which can be folded both ways, i.e. both inwards, as is the case with existing models of the series Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip, both outwards. The second method of bending is used, for example, by the Huawei Mate XS jigsaw.
