The popular music streaming platform YouTube Music is introducing information about songs and albums. They are thus trying to adapt to competition that is similar informace has been providing information on music in various forms for a long time.

For example, on Tidal, you can view detailed informace about the song such as who is the artist, who wrote or produced the song. The platform even offers data on who did the recording and the resulting mix of a given piece of music, with due credit given to backing bands and, in some cases, studio staff, if such recordings are available. The streaming service also offers reviews and critics' awards in the Info panel as part of the provided metadata, if the song or album has received them.

A subreddit post /r/YouTubeMusic shows that some users are already starting to see the "View song credits" option when accessing the drop-down menu on YouTube Music. Here, YouTube provides information about your music, such as who plays, wrote, produced the song, and where the music metadata was obtained from. It's the last point that could be a bit problematic for independent and self-publishing artists using YouTube Music. It is not yet clear how the data can be sent or whether it is provided by music publishers.

At this point, it doesn't look like there will be a wide rollout of this functionality. So it can be expected that, as in many previous cases, YouTube Music will receive an update soon. Since this feature has been requested on the YouTube Support Forums for almost four years now, it's certainly about time the people behind the music were given some credit.
