Smartphone product line Galaxy And from Samsung, it has long been among the popular mid-range phones. While the vast majority of models in this series stick to a fairly conservative design, Samsung Galaxy The A80 from 2019 stands out sympathetically among them. Let's now remember together this smartphone with an unconventional rear camera.

When it was Samsung Galaxy The A80, first presented, surprised everyone with its tilting, rotating camera. Smartphones with slide-out cameras were quite popular some time ago, but models with flip-up cameras were more of a rarity. In addition to the unconventionally designed camera, there was Samsung Galaxy The A80 is equipped with an AMOLED Infinity display (without any cutouts) with a diagonal of 6,7 inches.

The camera itself flipped, with a portion of the back extending upward while the camera module rotated on its axis. Thanks to this, the rear camera was also perfectly usable for high-quality selfies. Galaxy The A80 featured a 48 MP main camera with a 1/2,0″ sensor and full autofocus support. The set was completed by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle module with a 3D TOF sensor.

Under the Samsung display Galaxy The A80 was hiding a fingerprint reader - in this regard, the mentioned model was one of the pioneers in the S series smartphone family. The face scanner was missing for understandable reasons - the smartphone did not have a cut-out with the relevant sensors, so the face recognition would have to be taken care of somewhat tediously and neck-breakingly by a flip-up camera. Despite all the positives, it is evident that this is a design misstep, which Samsung did not pay to follow up on.
