Maybe you've been thinking about whether to buy a fitness tracker or a smart watch for some time and still can't decide between them. We will help you with this in this article by listing the reasons why you should buy this or that wearable device.

Reasons why you should buy a fitness tracker

The first reason to buy a fitness tracker is obvious – these devices are significantly cheaper than smartwatches. Today, you can buy a solid fitness tracker for less than a thousand crowns.

Another reason is convenience. Fitness trackers are lighter than smartwatches. They usually weigh between 20-30 grams and are thinner than smartwatches. For example, if you're moving around the office all day, the last thing you want is to have something heavy weighing on your wrist or bumping into it when you bend it.

And the last reason to buy a fitness tracker is the longer battery life. Given that these devices do less than smartwatches, that's understandable. A regular fitness tracker lasts from 6 to 14 days on a single charge, which is a value that is difficult to achieve for smart watches.

Reasons why you should buy a smartwatch

The first reason you should buy a smartwatch is the features that you won't find on fitness trackers in the vast majority of cases. These include, for example, built-in GPS, the ability to make calls (thanks to the presence of a microphone and speaker) or send messages, or voice assistants.

Not many fitness trackers also have NFC support, which means you can't simply pay with them through services like Google Wallet or Apple Pay. Of course, you can also pay by phone, but it sure is nice to be able to just tap your watch and leave your phone in your pocket.

Smart watches also have an advantage over fitness trackers in that they are more powerful and more equipped overall. They usually offer better chipsets, higher RAM, more storage, better quality displays with higher maximum brightness (so they are more readable in direct sunlight), better health sensors, as well as features like EKG measurement, skin temperature measurement, all-day stress monitoring, and in general health a more comprehensive view.

Then there is something called a status symbol. Many people see it in smartwatches too and will wear them even after their battery dies because they just look attractive. This is typically the case with watches Apple Watch or those from TAG Heuer.

So a fitness tracker or a smart watch?

So let's sum it up. Fitness trackers cost less, are more comfortable to wear, but have fewer features than smartwatches. They are suitable, for example, for sports-active students or followers of a healthy lifestyle who want to keep their condition under control and do not need the versatility of a smart watch. It follows that smart watches are intended especially for those who will use their versatility and who want comprehensive fitness and health monitoring. And yes, also to those who consider them a status symbol, such as a phone or a car. So, are you clear about which of these devices will grace your hand?
