Samsung has been equipping its phones with an under-display fingerprint reader for quite some time now. The series was the first to have a reader in the display Galaxy S10 introduced five years ago. It was the first generation of the ultrasonic reader, which the series also received Galaxy S20 and Note20.
At the row Galaxy S21 Samsung used Qualcomm's improved 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2 fingerprint reader for the first time. However, some of its users have complained that the reader has problems with functioning under the display protector, or generally about its slower responses compared to competing readers. For this year's flagship series Galaxy S24 the Korean giant deployed a new sensor that makes unlocking and authorization faster and more accurate.

In general, fingerprint readers on Samsung phones are very fast and accurate, but there are tips and tricks to make the reader even more reliable when unlocking your phone or authorizing a purchase. So if you register your fingerprint, stick to the instructions below rather than the one described by Samsung itself for the function itself.
How to speed up fingerprint unlocking on Samsung
- Do not press your thumb on the reader like the tutorial image on your phone shows you, but at the angle you would actually use to unlock your phone with your fingerprint.
- Register your master unlock finger more than once as separate fingers, at least 3-4 times.
- Try to cover all angles and edges.
- Register your second thumb at least once in the angles at which it will be placed on the screen.

This way, you give the fingerprint software more chances to recognize the unlocking finger faster, no matter how awkwardly placed on the screen or how gentle the tap. In this context, it is appropriate to add that the update with the One UI 6.1 superstructure brought a problem (it is mainly reported by users of the Galaxy S23) when the animation for the fingerprint reader sometimes does not appear on the screen. Fortunately, Samsung has acknowledged this issue and should fix it in the next update.
